100 Days 18 pounds

Wow so it has been 100 days since I started this blog. I planned to have a lot more posts by now, but there isn’t always a lot to say. Plus I’d forget.

Today is a great day! I am my lowest weight I’ve been all year. I am 2+ days fasted. I have only had black tea, black coffee, and water since Wednesday night. When you do an extended water fast it is important to supplement with electrolytes. I have a magnesium citrate tablet that I take once a day. I also use lite salt which is a table salt substitute made up of 50% sodium and 50% potassium. Some people find they don’t need to supplement electrolytes for 2 or 3 day fasts. I need to. I eat some salt when I feel weird. Sometimes I get a headache, sometimes my vision is a little distorted, sometimes I feel weak, so I pour a little lite salt in my hand and lick it. I also take a heme iron supplement. That’s just something I have found works for me whether I’m fasting or not. Heme iron is more easily absorbed by the body, so It shouldn’t make you feel nauseous, even if you take it on an empty stomach.

I generally lose 2lbs a day while water fasting. I don’t try to exercise. I will do 20 minutes of yoga, some sit-ups, push-ups, and squats if I feel like it. At the moment my daily step count is between 4000 and 6000. It’s pretty pathetic. I really should be moving more on days when I’m not fasting.

I like water fasting because of the quick drop in weight, but the reason I do it for more than 24 hours is for something called autophagy. I have allergies that cause inflammation and arthritis, congestion, stomach cramps and bloating. I’m enjoying being able to breathe through my nose right now. I’ll get into that another time.
